Basic Obedience
Basic Obedience skills—stay, come, sit, and heel are all skills that serve as foundational skills for all companion dog sports, but they also train your dog to become a better companion. You will learn the skills to have a well-trained, well-behaved dog for life. If you choose to continue in rally, agility, or advanced obedience, you will have the skills to be successful in the show ring. We offer opportunities to earn AKC CGC, GCGU, and CGCA titles.
Novice and Advanced Rally Obedience
The concept of Rally Obedience (Rally-O) is based on Rally car racing, where there is a driver and a navigator. The navigator "reads" the rally course map to the driver, and the driver has to complete the necessary exercises in a specific order to complete the course. Rally-O follows the same concept. A dog and handler team follows a set of 12 to 17 signs to complete a Rally course. Rally signs are designed using obedience skills grouped together as specific exercises. An example of a sign is Halt, About "U" Turn, Forward. The dog and handler navigate the course following the signs. Rally requires precision and speed. If two dog and handler teams tie achieving the same precision score, time breaks their tie. You will have the option to video-tape and submit an AKC Rally Obedience leg to AKC for official leg and/or title certification at the end of each training session.
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is about much more than the basics of sit, down, and come. We will discuss housetraining, crate training, and health care. We will talk about specific behavior challenges that you face right now. Skills cover basic training and grooming, walking on a leash, sitting, staying, lying down, coming to you, and how to train for distractions. You will have the opportunity to achieve the S.T.A.R. Puppy certificate. This class serves as a foundation for basic obedience.
Puppy Culture Kindergarten
Puppies must be between 8 and 16 weeks old, having their first set of puppy shots/worming.
This class exposes your puppy to social settings, getting used to walking over unusual textures, and using body awareness exercises and socialization. In a true puppy culture atmosphere, this would start at birth, but certainly, important to start within the first 12 weeks of the puppy's life. One of the puppy kindergarten classes' key components is puppy playtime, allowing the dogs to properly socialize with other puppies and people. We work on confidence-building skills, walking through a tunnel and over a raised platform.
Therapy Dog Training and Certification
A successful therapy team focuses on skill reliability while being able to remain calm in a situation that can be fast-paced and ever-changing. KK9’s therapy dog course focuses on the dog’s ability to follow basic handler commands including come, sit, stay, down while walking on a loose leash. Our course gives handlers the ability to understand and achieve what is expected of a dog’s behavior in a therapy situation and trains the dogs to perform these basic skills while remaining calm. Prior training in the KK9 novice obedience or novice rally obedience course is encouraged.
AKC Canine Good Citizen Series
Kramer K9's training classes give you the ability to achieve the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen certifications, including GCG, GCGU, GCGA, and S.T.A.R. Puppy. The AKC series is based on obedience and good manners and ensures responsible pet ownership. The CGC tests are available to dogs that enroll in our classes or receive their training elsewhere. The CGC exam is offered as the final obedience class at Kramer K9 for no additional fee. Please see our sign-up form to enroll in the CGC test series outside of attending our training classes. There is a $10 fee to enroll in the GCG test series if you have not attended our beginning obedience class. Following your test completion, you may submit your completed application to AKC to approve your test certification and receive your certificate.
Kids and K9s
Kids and K9s is a course designed for 10- to 16-year-olds and their dogs. Training will focus on teaching kids how to train their dogs to pay attention to them, heeling on a loose leash, standing, sitting, laying down, and staying. These basic obedience skills will be applied to everyday life as well as specific training techniques necessary for those kids who wish to show their dog in AKC, UKC, or 4-H dog training events.
Private Training
Private training is specific training and is available at $20.00 for 30 minutes. You can address specific training challenges you face now. Private training sessions give you the dog you want without attending the 6-week obedience class.
